Described as quiet, friendly, excitable at times. She barked a lot in the cage, but didn’t bark at all during assessment. Keeps herself very busy. She had a good reaction to the other dogs in cages. Tried to run away from an aggressive dog. Her health is good except for a gunky right eye. She came to her pen gate to greet tester. Allowed a teeth check and fully body handling, including paws and tail – which were a little touchy, but she showed no aggression. She comes when called every time. Requires some training, but she’s very intelligent, may make a good working dog. On lead she walks ahead or beside and circles occasionally, but does not pull at all. When off lead she follows within 1 metre of you always. When cars drove by, she sometimes hunched down as though she may chase them as they passed. Wanted to chase the goats too but was easily led away. Overall she’s a nice girl requiring a little training.

Spirit is a red female Australian Cattle Dog X, born February 1 2009. She would love to have a property to roar around on and just be by your side, as all cattle dogs do. She will make a great companion and friend. Spirit loves people and is friendly with other dogs (just ask her mate in the same pen). Spirit is @ YAPS (Young Animal Protection Society) on the north side of Cairns and is available for adoption immediately. Yaps Puppies and Dogs are all vet checked, vaccinated and desexed before being placed into new homes. Spirit can be adopted directly through YAPS, or AWDRI can arrange adoption and transport to almost anywhere in Australia.
Maggie is a female Border Collie born August 16 2005. She may be almost 5 years old, but she does not look it or act like it, she is full of life. Maggie is good with children and other dogs. Her family has moved and could not take her so all she is looking for is a second chance in life. Maggie has spent time with cattle in the past and so may be a great asset on a working or hobby property. Maggie has been adopted.
Observation Notes: The grand old man of the pound, no-one really knows his real age, so the 10 years is an approximation. He likes his cubbyhole, but was courteous enough to venture out to meet me. He is friendly, calm, & well behaved. After his photoshoot he went back to the comfort of his blanket & cubbyhole. He seems to have a lovely character about him. I hope is is taken from the pound soon. Adopted from the pound! Yay!! Read the rest of this entry »
Had a bad day? – tell Buckley all about it. He’s the perfect captive audience. You can sing, yell and talk at him to your heart’s content and he won’t mind one bit because this adorable puppy is deaf.
Being hearing impaired isn’t an obstacle for Buckley, he’s a happy, inquisitive boy who uses his nose and eyes to communicate with the world around him.
Buckley has a wonderful personality; he’s affectionate, playful and adores the company of people. He is friendly with other dogs and with children. Read the rest of this entry »
