Bevan – CRM-859 Male Kelpie – 18 mo – Mildura Pound, Vic

By admin Posted in Gone Home :), Victoria (VIC) /

CRM-859 Male Kelpie
Age: 18 months – 2 years
Height: Head at thigh
Weight: 15-20kg
Location Found: Cooke st Nichols Point
Date Found: Monday, 17 January 2011

Described as very friendly and mature natured. He was very interested in what was going on around him when he was first taken out for some exercise. Once distractions were gone, he loved having a good pat. He was introduced to a 15yr old Terrier and a Chihuahua puppy. He showed no aggression at all and was very well mannered with the old Terrier – gave her a sniff with tail wagging and didn’t try to make her play. He was also very gentle with the puppy. He was more interested in greeting some visiting humans than playing with the dogs. Later on he was introduced to an excitable male Heeler X and this boy behaved very well – calm and cool. He also met a lady and her 10yo daughter. He was sitting for the daughter every time, much to her delight. He showed no reaction to the goats in the next paddock. His health is good, has a small scar under his chin. He allowed a teeth check and full body handling, however tried to pull away when his tail was handled. He was distracted by workers during obedience testing, but once assessor gained his attention he came when called off lead and already knows how to sit on command. Has had basic training. On lead he walks ahead with no pulling – has been trained on lead. He tried to resist the “muzzle test” (thumb and index finger cupping muzzle without pressure). With the “startle test” he flinched when first shown a toy bunny but then instantly dropped it and starting sniffing it instead, until he heard a dog bark and then lost interest. Overall he seems like a very mature and sensible dog. No silliness and has already had some training. He was fine with the dogs he met. He may even be okay with cats as he showed no prey drive/didn’t try to get the small dogs to play. He should be great for a either a single owner or a family.

Toski – Cattledog x GSD – 3.5 mths – Surrender – Muswellbrook Pound

Safe with Dog Rescue Newcastle.

Toski is a tad sad because her owners left her at the pound,
so she wasn't overly co-operative for her photos, but she is a
very pretty & sweet young girl.
Her previous owner, though, left this message:

"Has always been well looked after and has had basic training.
Comes when called and sits on command. High voltage but obedient.
Used to open spaces and other dogs"

Please note that this dog is on the PTS list for Friday 4 February

Cheryl – ACD x JRT Female 12-18mths – Muswellbrook Pound

although would hardly stand still for a second. All she wanted to do
was get out & play.

Please note that this dog is on the PTS list for Friday 4 February

Howard – Heeler X Male – 10-14 mths – Mildura Pound

Described as a very friendly and playful boy. Unfortunately unable to let him off lead in the outside yard due to the heavy rain. He’s very affectionate and loves a snuggle. Kept rubbing by assessor’s legs so she’d give him a pat. His health is agood, he had a slight limp on his right front leg but it doesn’t seem serious and it wasn’t bothering him. He allowed a teeth check and full body handling. He seems to be friendly with other dogs, when walked past their cages he stopped to sniff and greet them, no sign of aggression at all. He appears to have no formal training and he’s still very puppy-ish. On lead he wasn’t too bad – walked ahead and when walked past the cages he didn’t pull. Overall he’s a very gorgeous dog. Very loving, friendly, playful and energetic. Should make for a very loyal companion for an active single or family.

If you would like to foster or adopt Howard – Please contact AWDRI asap – Thanks :)

Gladys – Kelpie X Female 2-4yrs – Blacktown Pound NSW #375

By AWDRI_12 Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Victoria (VIC) /

Lovely friendly girl, she kept wanting to shake hands when I entered the kennel. I was trying to tempt her timid kennel mate (#459) to come forward, and I was hoping that #375 being so friendly towards me, might help her kennel mate to lose some of her fear. We left without her in the end. #375 had a great time in the yard playing with two others. She’s a gorgeous girl, coming up to give me a bit of attention from time to time.

Note from volunteer – this girl is truly beautiful in personality and looks. She has been waiting and wanting to go for a walk/run. She has been in one of the yards but that is as close as she gets to having contact with people. She sits in the yard wagging her tail when people pass her. She loved a walk and run but preferred the walk. This dog needs to have exercise as she is carrying a bit too much weight around her tummy. She responds to “do you want to go on a walk”. She walked straight to the gate of the large yard and happily had the check chain placed around her neck. She pulls on the lead at times. She loves sitting on command for treats (nutritious food).

Gladys is now adopted! :)

Doreen – ACD – small female – Muswellbrook Pound #10A0111

A very cute & sweet young girl who was very happy to get a visitor. Having said that, she was very quiet & well behaved. It goes without question that she is very friendly.
