Lady – female Kelpie 2 yo – Ipswich, Qld

By admin Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Queensland (QLD) /

Lady is a gentle soul, sweet and affectionate. She is wonderful with other dogs and children and would make the most loyal of companions for a family willing to shower her with love and kindness.

Although a working breed, Lady does not need huge amounts of exercise, and after a run or wallk, loves nothing more than to settle down at your feet for a nap.

If you would like to meet Lady, please complete our online adoption application.

Saxon, 8-12 month old male Kelpie – Sydney, NSW *Adopted*

By admin Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, New South Wales (NSW) /

Saxon is in Blacktown pound, about to come out into foster care with AWDRI next week.

Note from volunteer – for a breed like this, to be stuck in a small kennel, it is very, very wrong. He just wants to run around and have fun. He got very excited everytime I passed his kennel, and was desperate to get out. It is really heartbreaking to see him suffer. He was amazingly self controlled when I let him off the lead and into the large yard. He wasn’t over the top, just grateful to be able to stretch his legs and have company. He seemed to enjoy all the sights and sounds and smells that you miss out on when you are in a kennel. Although he pulled on the lead (not all the time) when we went out for a walk, he was managable. I didn’t have any problem putting him back into his cell, he went straight in. This boy sits on command and loves the treats he gets in return. He loves to be rubbed all over. He shared a kennel with Imp 3652 staffy x mini Foxie, an odd size mix, but there seemed to be no problems with them getting along. They would still be together now, but his kennel mate was rescued.

Note from volunteer – a great candidate for a farm. He likes lots of space to run around in. A small yard is not for him. He has lots of energy to burn. How can such an active dog, burn this energy in the confines of a small kennel? He can’t. Unfortunately there is not enough hands to enable him to have the exercise he needs. The boy loved to have a good rub and a scratch all over. He nestled his nose in between my legs so I could rub his neck. He pulls on the lead but was manageable. Due to the yard being used, he had to go for a walk first which is probably why he pulled. He enjoyed his time outside. He met Imp 3692 K#61 cattle and showed no aggression.
