Ginger Rogers – 12 month old female red ACD – Brisbane, Qld *Adopted*

By admin Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Queensland (QLD) /

Ginger is a beautifully soft natured cattle dog, friendly and sociable with dogs and people. Affectionate and easily trained she will make a wonderful pet. She is still learning the basics and has almost mastered coming when called (her name is new to her, having been a stray in the pound). She is gentle, alert and full of energy albeit a bit nervous when she thinks she is in trouble.

She does not get on with cats so will need to go to a home without felines or where they can be kept separate. Ginger does suffer some anxiety when confronted with new situations but settles soon.

Her adoption fee of $300 covers her desexing, microchipping, C5 vaccination, heartworm test and commencement on monthly preventative.

Dolly – Blue cattle dog – female – 11months – Townsville, QLD *ADOPTED*

By AWDRI_13 Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, FNQ, Queensland (QLD) /

She loves kids, going for walks and running around in the park, she fetches sometimes, depends on how many distractions are around. She is pretty good on the lead but is still learning to deal with other dogs barking at her when she is out walking. She knows how to sit and come, and is quite responsive to training. Still very excitable, loves other dogs, quite submissive, not aggressive with them. She is also an excellent rat catching dog, and likes to bring them in to show you.

She is very affectionate and likes to try to climb on your lap and snuggle into you. She is house trained and has been sleeping inside during the cold snap, but usually sleeps outside. She is on dry food diet, with bones for treats. Doesn’t get car sick, but jumps out windows if unrestrained and you stop. She still loves to chew and has very effective teeth. I have to tie her up on a chain rather than a lead as she chews through very quickly. LOVES stuffed toys or cushions, enjoys slowing pulling out the stuffing, just chews til there is a hole then gently pulls it out. She has been tied up since being reported and seems to be coping okay with this (has not been treated this way before)She is a really smart sweet dog who just needs a good height fence and plenty of distractions. Kids or other playful dogs would be perfect.
Beautiful Dolly has taken up jumping the neighbours waist height fence. Complaint made to rangers. Jumps fence and enters neighbour’s house and chews her kids toys. Only started doing this after they had her over a few times for play dates. Does not enter neighbours yard on the other side.

Dolly is in foster care in Townsville. Please complete our adoption questionnaire if you would like to adopt her.

Bandit – male 9 month old blue ACD – Cairns, Qld

By admin Posted in Adopted, FNQ, Queensland (QLD) /

Bandit is a lovely young cattle dog in need of a new home. Friendly with children and dogs alike, just past his chewing stage and learning to walk well on lead he will make an awesome companion for a family willing and able to spend the time he needs to continue on his life path.

Bandit has always been an outside dog so he is not formally house trained but he has been inside with no accidents. He will bark if someone arrives but has no other barking or nuisance habits.

He has good recall off lead and is very quick to learn commands.

Please contact us if you can foster Bandit or if you can offer him a permanent home.

His adoption fee will be $300 which provides for his desexing, vaccination, microchipping and monthly heartworm and worming.

Rocky – male Kelpie 1 yr old – Smythesdale, Vic

By admin Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Victoria (VIC) /

Rocky is simply a wonderful dog! He has fitted in with us perfectly from the start. He loves to be close to you but he also loves to run around and play with other dogs. He shows absolutely no signs of aggression and is great with kids, other dogs and even orphan lambs!

He is very obedient and great with all the basic commands – sit, stay, etc.  He doesn’t dig, jump, climb or bark excessively (unless he is locked up away from the action). He is also great in the car or on the back of the ute and is house trained. His only bad habits appear to be licking at times and being slightly demanding of the attention when other dogs are being patted.

Being a kelpie he needs lots of exercise and a home with plenty of space to play. We think he would be best in a home where he has a human companion around regularly. Otherwise he definitely needs to be with other dogs to keep him entertained while you’re away.

He is such as easy-going dog. He’s happy doing whatever you’re doing whether that’s outside jobs or just relaxing by the fire. He is a great companion who deserves a wonderful home.

Please complete our adoption application if you are interested in adding this lovely dog to your family.

Mildura – RFS-11477 Female Border Collie X (??) – adopted

By VicPounds3 Posted in Adopted, Victoria (VIC) /

Age: 18+ months

Height: Approx. 40cm

Weight: 20-25kg

Location Found: Mini Pen

Date Found: Monday, 6 June 2011

Described as a friendly girl. Her health is good, although she may be on heat and she scratches one area of her rump excessively until it has bled a little bit. She allowed a teeth check and full body handling. She doens’t appear to have any obedience training. On lead she pulled a little. She displayed no interest in playing with the toy and startled at the noise of the squeaky toy. She wasn’t introduced to any other dogs one-on-one but when walked past their cages on lead she was timid of them. Overall this girl needs training and socialisation with other dogs to help with her timidness around them. She was timid around assessor so best homed to family with no children or older teenagers. She will need a calm, patient home and training using positive reinforcement.

By VicPounds3 Posted in Available with Other Rescues, Victoria (VIC) /

Age: 1-2 years

Location Found: Mini Pen

Date Found: Tuesday, 7 June 2011

Described as an active boy. His health appears to be good although he’s underweight and has fly-bitten ears and face. He allowed a teeth check and full body handling. He comes on command sometimes. On lead he pulled. He wasn’t interested in playing with the toys but did enjoy chasing after them. He was startled by the noise of the squeaky toy. He wasn’t introduced to any other dogs one-on-one but when walked past the other dog cages on lead, he displayed some dominance, which should be rectified once he’s desexed. Overall this boy needs full training, adequate exercise and room to run off leash in order to be happy and satisfied.

This boy is now safe with another rescue group

Mildura – CRM-10898 Female Kelpie X (??) – Safe with another rescue

By VicPounds3 Posted in Available with Other Rescues, Victoria (VIC) /

Age: Approx. 12 months

Weight: Approx. 25kg

Date Found: Friday, 10 June 2011

Described as a lovely, friendly girl. She was happy to be on lead and showed manners when waiting to be taken out of the pen – she’s not dominant at all. Displayed lots of tail wagging while out with assessor. In her pen she likes to sit on top of her plastic kennel! She doesn’t bark in her cage nor outside – she doesn’t seemed to be fazed about being the pound. Her health seems to be excellent and she allowed a teeth check and full body handling, including ears tail and feet, although she was a bit hesitatent about her feet being handled, but still allowed it and no aggression was shown. She knows how to sit and sat every time for the treats (which she loved). Read the rest of this entry »

Mildura – RFS-11495 Male Heeler X – Safe with another rescue

By VicPounds3 Posted in Available with Other Rescues, Victoria (VIC) /

Age: Approx. 1-2 years

Height: Approx. 56cm

Weight: Approx. 20-25kg

Location Found: Shelter

Date Found: Sunday, 12 June 2011

Overall this boy is extremely timid and terrified of being in that pound building. Getting him back to his cage was extremely difficult for assessor, he was pulling back against the lead, had his ears pinned back and he was barking at her and all the other dogs. In order to return him, assessor had to throw treats into his cage and shut the door behind him rather than lead him in there herself. This boy wouldn’t be suitable for rehoming without first testing outside of the pound environment and then if reactions are still negative, plenty of rehabilitation and training would be needed for him to be rehomed safely. It is unclear and (unable to be assessed) whether his behaviour is related to the pound where he’s terrified.  Read the rest of this entry »

Zulu – Blue cattle x Border Collie – Male – 2years – Townsville, QLD *ADOPTED*

By AWDRI_13 Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Dogs in Need, FNQ, Queensland (QLD) /

Zulu is currently still living with his owners, so we are looking for an adoptive or foster home for him.

Very loyal and clever dog. Zulu has lots of energy and loves to play fetch. He does not chew or dig, he doesnt get car sick and is usually friendly with other dogs – can be a little aggressive but depends on the other dog and if he is on the lead (trying to protect his owner). He is very gentle with children. He loves attention and to be close to people. He is very clever and with further training could be a great working dog. He needs to run everyday so would suit a family on a property or who are prepared to take him to the park everyday. We are desperate to find Zulu the perfect new home

If you can foster Zulu please complete our foster application
