5276 – 1-2yo female kelpie x, Renbury Farm NSW

By VicPounds Posted in Gone Home :), New South Wales (NSW) /

On PTS list today 29/12 Update 30/12 – After being held over this girl was adopted but then her original family came in to claim her – they had been looking everywhere. Happy ending :)

VOLUNTEER NOTES | What a quiet, placid, sweet girl she is. Absolutely no trouble at all inside the kennels – she doesn’t make a peep, but does enjoy the company of her neighbours. And if you walk on by she loves it when you pay her some attention. Although not that strong and bearable, she would benefit from some leashwork as it doesn’t appear she has any… but really she’s just that chill it’s not a big issue with her. Outside she was on alert as to the happenings around the farm and unless I miss my guess, just wanted to get to any other doggies she saw to have a bit of a play! She met the just impounded amstaffy boy and was all tail waggly and bumb wiggly, wanting a game. She loves her treats and ear scratches, and would love to spend as much time in your arms as you’ll allow. She’s a quiet achiever, but I know she will steal your heart if you took a chance on her. Please do. (AK 26/12)

Scarlett – 13 months old female Kelpie x – Bendigo, Vic

By admin Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Victoria (VIC) /

Scarlett is in the market for her own loving home. Extremely versatile, the possibilities are endless for this easy going, happy, affectionate, playful, fun, bright and focused little black dog with the
lovely smile. Even with no former training, she is naturally well behaved and well balanced and has a calm demeanour most of the time, except in the morning when everyone needs to be kissed and
rekissed several times in celebration of the new day. Even a small amount of training would put the polish on this lovely girl.

Scarlett is smaller than a regular kelpie. She is active but not hyperactive. Her energy is more focused but would still require regular exercise and plenty of mental stimulation to be her best as
her mind is active and she is inquisitive and eager to learn. She thrives on praise and food rewards for a job well done. She likes to alert you to the arrival of visitors but is happy to refer to you.
Scarlett is very trusting of her humans and if in doubt about anything, she looks to her humans for reassurance.

She could be suited to a home with a well behaved and friendly doggie mate as she likes to play with her foster brothers and sisters. She could also make a lovely companion as an only dog for someone
who was around a lot. Equally family life could be an option for her too (loves kids), providing she was included in day to day family life. For someone willing to put a bit more effort into her training
she would make a bright agility or obedience prospect or may be suited to tracking as she has an exceptionally keen nose.

She is currently learning a few basic commands and is picking them up quickly. She is a bit wayward on the lead, but is getting the hang of it. In any case she is easily manageable and doesn’t pull after
the initial excitement of the walk wears off and settles into an easy rhythm. Her toilet training is coming along OK. Off lead she is never far away and considering she has only had her name for a
short time, her recall is really very good.

A little delight who is going to make a big contribution to the right home.

Scarlett is in foster care in Bendigo, Victoria.

Please complete our adoption questionnaire if you would like to welcome Scarlett into your home and family.

Danny – Male Border Collie – 7-8 years – stray – Caboolture, Qld

Danny is a beautiful gentle old fellow who craves affection. That said he’s not an ‘in your face dog’ and is happy just to be with you. When we first received him Danny had been left tied up with no food or water and was very skinny, full of fleas with a skin condition and sore weeping eyes with no energy.

He now has his full Border Collie coat and loves to retrieve toys. Danny now has lots of energy and runs around with the younger dogs here.  He would be fine as an only dog but is also good with other dogs. We have anywhere from 3 to 5 dogs regularly here. It’s only around food which Danny sometimes is a bit aggressive with his resource guarding.

His carer has had friend’s children over playing with him and he is very tolerant and has never shown any aggression.  Just trots around with them hoping they will throw his toy.

He is washed at least fortnightly with Malaseb and fed a low allergy dry food which has improved his coat and itchiness. He does suffer from dry eyes occasionally but I have ointment from the vet which after administering for a few days settles things down.

Being an older gent he is a bit incontinent so sleeps in his hammock bed outside the back door under the pergola area however he is house-trained. It’s just that he can’t hold on for hours during the night.

This dear old boy deserves lots of love and attention and would be a loyal friend to his human.

To find out more or to meet Danny with a view to adoption please complete our adoption questionnaire: http://www.workingdogrescue.com.au/application-forms/apply-to-adopt-from-awdri/

Ringo – 2 year old male short haired Border Collie – Hervey Bay, Qld *Adopted*

By admin Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Queensland (QLD) /

Ringo is a gorgeous natured and stunning boy currently in a foster home in Hervey Bay and in need of a forever family. Ringo does show some working instinct in that he heads the cattle but hasn’t been tested on sheep.

Ringo is a very friendly, playful male border collie approx 2 yrs old. He has a beautiful nature and will make someone an excellent ‘best mate’. He seems to have had very basic obedience training but because of his excitement and hyperactivity these need to be fine tuned. He loves to run, play fetch (doesnt always bring it back thou haha), give you kisses and be by your side. He is good with kids but can, at time, jump. He has been around my 1yr old daughter and all he wanted to do was lick her!
In the short time ive had him with me he has proven to be a very loyal & loving dog, just wanting to be with you all the time. He also seems to think he is a lapdop despite me telling him he is just a bit big but he doesnt seem to think so! He can be left in the yard on his own while im out, he doesnt dig & hasnt attempted to jump any fences. He is good with other dogs and loves to play with them. He has been around horses since he has been with me and despite running up and down the fence while im in the paddock with them once i bring the horses out of the paddock he doesnt really care about them or go near them. I aslo had ducks that he was good with, didnt attack or chase them but he was curious lol.

Bandit (red) and Sofie (blue) – 4-5 yrs old – ACD – Maryborough Pound, Qld

By admin Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Queensland (QLD) /

Update 28/12: Bandit and Sofie are now adopted into the one family so will get to stay together. They will be collected from the pound next week and transported to their new home.

Bandit and her sister have ended up in the pound after their elderly owner has had to go into aged care and there is nobody to care for them. Very little socialisation in the past couple of years has meant that they are scared out of their wits in the pound although neither has reacted aggressively to pound staff. Further testing is underway to determine how dependant they are on each other as they are currently being kenneled separately.

They are scheduled to be PTS on Thursday 29th December so we are in urgent need of foster homes for them.
