Maya – female 8 month old ACDx – Brisbane, Qld *Urgent rehoming*
Maya is being rehomed not for any real fault in herself but to reduce the stress on the family’s other dog who has issues and to reduce her own stress levels as a result.
Maya is a lovely little lady, she’s crate and house trained. We’re also doing a basic class at the moment but she’s bored a lot and would need daily exercise. She is walked and run alongside her owner on the bike but even that is not enough. Maya is fit as a fiddle and has no health issues at all. She has been thoroughly vet checked including her hips and knees.
Maya is currently on the BARF diet and enjoy bones everyday. She is fed with a bowl of food at night and gets a lot of food-puzzles as well through the day in addition to her bone in the morning.
Maya does know a few tricks here and there but would need further training. She starts to show interest in balls and might be a very good “fly ball” dog.
Maya is not too keen on other dogs, due largely we suspect to being unsocialised as a puppy. Her family got her from a regional pound so her background is not known. This could be remedied with a confident owner/carer who understands how to introduce her to other dogs.
Maya is fantastic with kids, does not get car sick at all. She will sleep after 5 minutes being in the car (she loves sitting in the front seat but she’s not allowed there very often). She does not chew furniture and (most of the time) does not go on the bed. She sleeps inside at night but sleeps either in her crate or in front of her owner’s bed. She’s a very playful puppy. She’s good with clipping her nails and walks without pulling on the lead. She starts chasing balls and loves to play tug of war.
Maya has been trained using a clicker which she loves. Treats are very much appreciated by this lovely girl.
When first adopted by her family she didn’t really like the ocean very much and didn’t go swimming. But after a while she got used to the waves and even goes swimming with her owner. She loves the shell full with water in the backyard though. She does display a keen interest in chasing birds so would do best in a home without free ranging poultry.
It is her owner’s belief, supported by their trainer, that it would be good for her to be with an older, more mature dog who can teach her a lot. She needs to build up her confidence. She barks behind the fence when dogs walk past and gets nervous when this happens.
We are seeking an urgent foster home for Maya: http://www.workingdogrescue.com.au/application-forms/apply-to-foster/
502 – 1yo male ACD, Queanbeyan Pound ACT
Due 20/5
Volunteer notes: Found in front pens. Friendly when we entered his outside yard then jumped up.Happy to be handled and leaned in.No obvious health problems. At first resisted being guided into a sit but then allowed. Easy to guide him into a drop.Friendly and appropriate with female boxer x. Assertive and a little stimulated when introduced to the male staffy. Staffy growled as cattledog got closer then cattledog growled back. He can sit and although not very good on lead was responsive and watched handler. He’d best suited to a home with a female dog as he was ‘strutting his stuff’ when he met the male staffy. Both entire males so he may be better once desexed. He’s a very handsome and likeable dog with a good and friendly nature. He wagged his tail a lot and was happy in our company. He is responsive and keen to please. He’ll need an owner willing to train and exercise – he’d be a pleasure to train!
Due 18/5
Volunteer notes: Surrendered (not sure why). Was a guard dog and chained up a lot.Calm when we entered his outside yard.Allowed being handled but was a little unsure and trembled.Rex has a toe missing on his back right foot. He seemed to favour it when sitting. His teeth are quite worn down.Resisted but then allowed being guided into a sit and drop.Friendly greeting with a female jack russell, sniffing noses.Although met male staffy in appropriate manner he quickly moved away. Rex can sit, drop and walks well on lead. Responsive and motivated by treats.Ranger said Rex was very wary of the male rangers when he first arrived but has settled and is much calmer around them. Ranger also said he’s seen a big change in him. Rex seems a bit bemused at being in the pound and is struggling. We had him out for a while and he really did start to relax the longer he was with us. He’s probably spent a lot of time alone, poor boy. Rex loves water and has been picking his water bowl up and throwing it over his head. You can see he has wet patches on his body in one of the photos. He’d make a devoted companion in a quiet home and deserves a comfortable retirement. A lovely older boy.
