Opal – 4 year old female red Kelpie x Koolie – Lismore area, Northern NSW *Adoption pending*

Opal is a ridiculously good looking dog. Quite apart from that she is gentle soul who loves a pat, a walk and a bone. Having only been with us a short time her true personality is still emerging as she gains confidence and learns to relax, play and have fun. To date she has been fine with kids, chooks, wallabies, cows, pigs, sheep and other dogs.

Opal is not a demanding dog and is very responsive with a willingness to please which will make her easily trainable. She is a pleasure to be around and will provide her adopters with endless joy.

Opal is a small kelpie dog around 13kg who had a litter of 7 pups roughly 7 weeks ago so she is not yet able to be desexed. She will be desexed prior to going to her adoptive home though. Her pups have all come into our care as well and will be advertised on our site shortly.

Cooped up in a small backyard for too long, lovely young Jack would make a great family dog with some land to run and play.

Angus – 2 year old – male blue ACD – Elmhurst, Vic *Adopted*

By admin Posted in Adopted, AWDRI Dogs, Victoria (VIC) /

Update 26/01: Angus has commenced his 2 week adoption trial with his hopefully forever family. – update 8/2: Angus is formally adopted!!

Angus is a divine boy, friendly, affectionate and obedient and he loves people and playing with other dogs. He does currently take exception to dominant, undesexed dogs but having only recently been desexed himself this may settle over time and with further socialisation. He spends most of his time outside but has been in the house without any accidents and does not mark anywhere inside.

He loves chasing his bucket or ball and is very interested in the sheep in the paddock next door but has not been tested on them nor with cats or children so these aspects of his temperament are not currently known.

If you are interested in Angus he is in foster care in Elmhurst, Vic presently but you can apply to adopt him by completing our online questionnaire.

His adoption fee of $300 covers his microchip, vaccination, heartworm test, worming and desexing.

Finn – 1yo male kelpie, Melbourne, Vic *On trial with my new family*

“Finn” also known as “Finnigan” is a young handsome ball of love and is looking for a human who will just spend time with him. With a medium energy level he is just as happy to sit by your side as he is to go for a run. Finn was originally fostered with the intent to become a trained working sheep dog; however Finn is not that interested and would rather play.
He is great with other dogs, and has been living with 9 other dogs with no arguments, he loves people, and has been introduced to children with no problems, and he shows little interest in cats. He is a dream to handle however does need a prompt every now and then. He does jump a 4ft gate, but when he does jump it he comes straight up to the house and sits at the doorstep. He is not loud and only barks when happy. Finn walks loosely on a lead, jumps into the ute, knows sit, stay and has brilliant recall. He is a very fast learner and thrives on being taught new things.
A family who would not leave him at home all day would be suited, or a tradie who will let him hang out with them all day. He does not need another doggy companion, but will be happy either way.

To meet or adopt please fill out our adoption form. Please note that completing the application form does not place you under any obligation to adopt.

Dillon – 2yo male border collie – Qld

By VicPounds Posted in *Adoption Pending*, AWDRI Dogs, Queensland (QLD) /

We thought it best to obtain Dillon’s description from his foster carer who knows him best :)

What can i say he is lovely! I have never met such a gentle creature ever. He is content to follow you around and place his head or paw on your knee for a pat or have a cuddle. I have heard him bark once in the three weeks we have had him, and it was in excitement playing with our dogs in the back yard. We have had no issues with our two and him, he has never growled. He is happy to just follow the group and be warm and cuddled at night :)

Dillon would love a family willing to shower him with love and treat him like the special man he is.

Tandia – Female Kelpie – 12-18 mths – DAS Canberra *on trial with my new family*

Tandia is a soft and friendly dog who is quite interactive with people, a delightful young dog who is very playful and happy by nature, offering play bows and zooming around a fair bit. She is still learning about walking on a lead and does best on a Sporn harness rather than a collar. She doesn’t have great recall but tends to stay close regardless and won’t just run off from the pack.

She has grown accustomed to mixing with other dogs and interacts well with her foster siblings and others at the dog park and although she is very interested in cats she shows no prey drive or malice toward them.

She would be best with older children as she is very playful with humans and might be a bit too playful for littlies. Crate trained, she even naps in it during the day and she travels very well in the car.

Tandia is now in foster care with AWDRI in Canberra.  If you can provide her with an adoptive home please fill in the relevant form and forward to us as soon as possible.

This girl is very affectionate & friendly. She loved getting a visitor & was a true sweetheart with me (maybe she knows I’ve got 3 kelpies already  ). Above all she just wants someone to cuddle her & I’m sure she will repay that gesture of kindness a thousand times over. Excuse the photos as she is far more pretty in the flesh.

Penny is coming into foster care with AWDRI Friday 1st April pending going to her adoptive home.
