Tickles – 12-18 month female Kelpie x Border Collie, Bendigo VIC *On trial with my new family*

Tickles is seeking love, direction and long term commitment. A more affectionate, loyal and loving friend than this pretty lady would be impossible to find. She bonds quickly and strongly with her humans and loves nothing more than to lay at your side and be stroked. She is mostly settled, especially when one on one with you, but she still has bursts of puppy enthusiasm when her fun side emerges (usually after dinner) and loves a game of tug.

While she gets on well with other dogs (happily coexists in foster care with five other dogs without issue), she can be a fraction competitive and possessive of her humans. She is being taught that there is enough love and attention to go around, and there are rewards for good manners and is catching on quickly.
A home with a sensible well behaved doggy friend (possibly male) could work for her (but no substitute for time spent with her owner) but gives the impression she would equally make a devoted companion as an only dog for someone who was around a lot and willing to include her in their lives. Her ideal home would be one in which she was shown calm leadership, direction and consistency. She may currently be a little too exuberant at times for small children.
Being a working breed, Tickles will need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to thrive and to prevent her from becoming bored. Some additional training will put the icing on this bright girl and give her the chance to be her best and realise her potential. She may also enjoy a doggy sport such as agility as she is very light on her feet and athletic.
Prior to coming into care, she had no training and had not been provided with any direction or leadership. She is starting to learn a few manners and basic commands and is relishing the opportunity to learn and put her quick mind to use. She is responding well to high grade food rewards and praise as training tools. She seems to be lapping up the opportunities life is now offering her and has no intention of looking back.
On lead, she initially had no idea but is starting to listen and is already improving. Off lead she had no recall to begin with but again is starting to realise there are rewards for returning and while this is still a work in progress, she is taking giant strides. Her toilet training has begun. She was formally an outside only dog but has developed a real affinity for her soft , warm bed and is well behaved inside and is happy to recline on her bed while inside.
Tickles is going to provide some lucky person or family with a best friend for life.
She is in foster care in Bendigo, Victoria.

Trail – 1-2yo male kelpie, Ballarat Vic *On trial with my new family*

Handsome, intelligent, obedient, friendly. These words all describe the gorgeous Trail.

Trail is a country boy with stunning colouring and good looks and a personality to match. He was a ranger favourite whilst in the pound and it’s not hard to see why. He is obedient and loves human company. He really does aim to please in all that he does. He also loves being in the company of other dogs. Being a kelpie he has energy to burn and loves nothing more than running around with his new friends.

Trail has come from a rural upbringing and has been taught basic manners. Being a country boy he is learning a few new skills in foster care such as lead manners and toilet training but he’s intelligent and this makes training very easy. Whilst in care he has shown no interest in hurting other animals such as chickens or sheep. He has also been tested for working instinct. Although very keen he doesn’t appear to have had proper herding training but with his high intelligence he has potential.

Trail is a loving and loyal companion who just needs to find his best mate. Hopefully one who has land for him to run around on and explore. Could this be you? If you are interested in adopting or meeting Trail please fill in the form on our website. http://www.workingdogrescue.com.au/application-forms/apply-to-adopt-from-awdri/

Huey – 1yo male ACD, Melbourne Victoria

Huey arrived with a hairline fracture to his right foreleg which requires splinting, bandage changes and confinement. In true cattle dog style, he takes all of this in his stride. Huey is a lively and loving dog with lots of character. He is a typical cattle dog, being loyal and always at your side, and has a good nature, getting on well with his gentle foster sister and rather bossy foster brother. When introduced to cattle and horses, he was interested but calm, although he hasn’t been into the paddock with them. He chases cats with fervour, and a home with cats would not be recommended. Huey is biddable and responds well to commands and is progressing very well with his toilet training. He has been left in a crate while his fracture has been healing and has shown no signs of being destructive to his bandage or his bedding. He loves nothing better than to cuddle up next to you or sit at your feet, but does not appreciate being excluded from company and will become demanding if this happens (barking). He therefore requires a home where he is included as part of the family, and then he will be a loving and loyal companion. He is a little protective of his home but has shown no signs of aggression.

Rocket – 1yo male kelpie x, Victoria

Rocket is a 1 year old Kelpie X loving boy who is full of energy and just wants to play. He is still a little bit shy and would suit a family with older children as he jumps a bit. He is very gentle even when he jumps and lands very nibbly on you. He can stand on two feet when he want to look at something, which makes him look a bit like a large meer cat! Rocket is very good with other dogs and plays well with them. He adapts well to change. He loves cuddles and kisses and can sit when asked.

Sonté – 12 month old female Choc & white BC x ACD – outer northern Melbourne, Vic

Sonté is a lovely dog. She is good with other dogs, but is very shy initially. She loves children and has been bought up with kids ages 4-12. Though she can still jump up occasionally, she usually just sits or lays in front of them waiting for a pat.
Sonté also loves water, she will stand in rain and find water almost anywhere just to have a smim. Regular beach trips would be great for Sonté, or being at the river.

Sonté loves fetch, she will play and play even when she is clearly tired. She has shown no interest in the horses and is okay with cats, although she doesn’t quite understand why the move or hiss when she sniffs them. She loves a good belly scratch. Sonté still jumps up but with training this can be prevented. She also can manouver her way through wire fencing, often breaking into the paddock to swim in the dam and then comes back out, so wooden fencing may be better suited for Sonté. She really just needs someone to pay her affection, play fetch with her, love her and dedicate their time to giving this pup the training and forever home she deserves. Could that be you?
